About FARA

Emerging from Vancouver, BC, FARA is a multi-hyphenate R&B artist redefining what it means to be a global powerhouse. Seamlessly blending her Indigenous Malay heritage with contemporary R&B, she creates a sound that is soulful, magnetic, and deeply authentic. Born in Singapore, FARA’s artistry is steeped in traditional melodies passed down through her family, shaping a unique storytelling approach that resonates across cultures.

A Journey in Music

FARA’s musical path began early. As a member of Vancouver’s Hip Hop group Ghos Fienz, she honed her performance skills alongside Crype, Ill Kid, and Arami. In 2007, she signed with indie label Firehouse Records, home to artists like Tre Nyce and Young Kazh. This experience refined her craft, teaching her to write compelling hooks and build a strong artistic foundation.

Collaborating with Vancouver legends like the Rascalz and performing at hall parties and clubs, FARA immersed herself in the local scene. Her solo debut on a CBC reality show marked the beginning of her rise as a dynamic, versatile artist.

Breakthrough Moments

By 2016, FARA was sharing stages with R&B icons like 112 and Ginuwine, earning her place in the industry. Her 2019 debut EP, About Me, explored themes of modern womanhood, with standout tracks like “Hello Goodbye” featuring Dkay. Collaborations with BC’s Teon Gibbs on his album Rose Tape showcased her adaptability and musical depth.

Global Reach

FARA’s bilingual single “BEACHSIDE” (2022–2023), created with Juno and Grammy nominee Jonny Tobin, propelled her to international recognition. Her 2023 single “SOUL” gained traction on Spotify editorial playlists in Asia, cementing her status as a global artist.

Collaboration & Creativity

FARA is deeply rooted in collaboration. Her 2024 releases, “FOCUSD” and “THRU,” produced by Vancouver’s FiveGawd and visually brought to life by Mikky Filmz, highlight her dedication to showcasing local talent. She also partnered with Filipino Hip Hop artist Spotty Josif and Indigenous artists Lady Sincere and Christie Lee, amplifying diverse voices.

Beyond music, FARA co-directed visually striking videos, including “Creepin” for Toronto’s DJ Big Jacks, Aritzia’s official DJ, as well as projects for Filipino artist Angela Apigo and LA rapper Nubiian. Her ability to transcend disciplines underscores her multifaceted artistry.

Captivating Performances

FARA’s live performances are a testament to her magnetic stage presence. From headlining URP Radio’s Annual Artist Showcase to delivering an intimate set at SoFar Toronto, she connects deeply with audiences. In 2024, she opened the BC Lions game with the national anthem and performed at the ASEAN Day Reception for BC Parliament representatives, blending her cultural roots with her passion for music.
